Tee off on one of the most spectacular opening holes in the world of golf. Stroll along the coastline of Cape Farewell as you play your way around the first 5 holes, before heading up into a dramatic dune-scape to complete the first leg of 13 holes. Then stop to have a quick break and a snack in the clubhouse prior to playing the final 5 hole stretch by Cape Wickham Lighthouse, finishing on the 18th above Victoria Cove Beach.
Construction of the course was completed in late 2015, under the watchful eye of co-designers Mike DeVries (USA) and Darius Oliver (AUS), and quickly gained international recognition in the world rankings. Since then avid golfers have continued to travel from all around the globe to visit King Island in order to experience Cape Wickham Links for themselves.
Every hole on the course has an ocean view, which is extremely rare, and no 2 holes are the same. The undulating course normally plays firm, allowing the imagination to go wild with limitless shot-making possibilities. Tees, Fairways and Greens are all seeded with fescue grass, following in the footsteps of the old traditional links courses in Scotland and Ireland.
NOTE: The season begins on the September 1st, and closes on June 30th. The best golfing weather is normally enjoyed between October and March. June surprisingly provides some fantastic days during the last month of the season before winter settles in.
Perched on the northern tip of King Island, Cape Wickham is exposed to the roaring 40s, and therefore the course shuts down in the winter months of July and August, as the weather during that period is not suitable for playing enjoyable golf.
